Trying Zooomr
After hearing much talking — mostly enthusiastic — about it, I decided to give Zooomr a try.
Zooomr is, basically, a Flickr-clone and even though it has a couple of features Flickr hasn’t got, I think it lacks what makes me love Flickr: usability.
Plus, I really like the freshness of Flickr: it’s so white… :)
I believe Flickr is just plain simple: I’ve used it for almost two years and never wondered how to do anything. Instead, after trying Zooomr out for a couple of hours I was full of questions I couldn’t find answers to.
I’d really like to know what people find so mind-blowing about Zooomr. Meanwhile, I’ll keep trying it, even though I think it probably won’t ever replace Flickr in my heart.
And please, keep in mind I’m not saying it’s not a good website: it’s really well done and works fine, it’s just that I’m too much in love with Flickr, I guess. They just need to work a bit on the usability side of things, but overall they’re on the right path. ;)

On reason I didn’t sign up was because I just dislike have accounts EVERYWHERE on the web. I keep track of everything that I sign up for and if I am just testing it, I use this one email that is loaded with spam ( probably because some of those services were untrustworthy ). Sorry Zooomr, I’m already taken by Flickr and they are doing a GREAT job.

I know exactly what you mean and I tried it just because I could use my OpenID.
Anyway, you’re not missing on anything. ;)

Good to know that I am not missing on anything. Same here, heard a lot about it, but never took the effort to try it out. I am with you, Flickr is good enough for me.

Well, Zoomr is cool because it gives free PRO accounts to bloggers, that’s all. Besides that, it’s ugly and doesn’t have working Wordpress plugin.

Few good words about Zooomr
1. As Mariusz told, it is giving PRO accounts to bloggers and it is more than what a blogger can expect for storing all his/her images. For Flickr PRO users, it doesn’t matter anymore.
2. Just like Flickr Wordpress Plugin, there exists Zooomr Wordpress plugin for Zooomr too to get your Zooomr RSS feed inside Wordpress, to update Mariusz. It is zooomrRSS. You can find it @ http://stabani.com/archives/2006/255. It is pretty cool and can be easily customized. I got it fixed with my lightbox 2 plugin for wordpress and it is working fine.
3. As it is a start up service, we can’t compare it with Flickr at this place but it progressing much faster than Flickr had. Within couple of months of its launch, we have an uploader tool for uploding multiple image to Zooomr from PC.
4. The best thing is that you can use your OpenID/Google ID (perhaps they have intention to become part of Google) with Zooomr where as Flickr is already owned by Yahoo and its future is unpredictable because Yahoo! has launched its own new Yahoo Photos Beta with ultra features including unlimited storage (so where will it place Flickr in Yahoo network in near future). And there are no more news about Yahoo-Flickr collaboration…aren’t you bit worried about Flickr?
