How do you like my weblog?
I have a few things to finish and then I’d like to start working on a new layout for this website.
I like the current one, but it’s starting to feel old — more than 6 months of life can be considered a major breakthrough.
I don’t want to rush it or anything. I want to take my time and come up with something that we all love.
So I’d like to know what you like or don’t like about the current layout. What you think I should improve and what I should drop. And what you’d like me to add.
Personally I feel the Reading List is a bit neglected by visitors, so I’d like to throw it in the main flow.
I’ll also — but it’s still unsure — make changes in the backstage: Textpattern will replace Wordpress as my engine of choice.
Wordpress is trying to be too much and will probably end up being the next Movable Type. ;)
Shuttle might change things a bit, but I don’t know when it’ll be available, so I think I’ll go with Textpattern.

I tested Textpattern back in august, when I decided to give it a try, a friend of mines talked to me about it in a very positive way.
And infact, Textpattern is a gem. Especially when it comes to skin it differently than the default version.
But I see Textpattern more as a CMS than WP. Personally I like WP better, as it’s easier to manage, add plugins, write hacks etc, even if both TP and WP have great support communities.
Anyway, sorry for the OT; I’ll think about my likes/dislikes of your site later, as I just want to think about it calmly.
But, to start my list, one thing I always loved was the comments layout. The combo Avatar + Name + Comment on the right is absolutely lovely.

Sounds a bit scary indeed… … Will WP turned commercial one day then? Haha…nobody knows..
Well, I still think WP’s the best after trying all different sort of CMS, weblog engines, it’s easy to manage, clean user-interface, plugins, and themes are quite easy to manage and modify.

@ stchatterbox: I meant more feature-wise than distribution-wise.
Should it turn commercial, even though I doubt, they would either need to rewrite most — if not all — the code or continue to provide it under a GPL license, indeed, it originated from a GPL project and they will always have to adhere to that license.
Plus, a new project could always spring up from the latest GPL version of WP.
So you don’t have to worry about it becoming commercial… :)

I suggest that you think about changing the font and increase the font size. I will let you know if I can think of some more.

I think they have some good pointers on blog designs.

I like simple designs. Personally, your banner looks like it’s for a commercial site, so every time I visit, I get a little thrown off. Also, your left sidebar is a little off. It might just be my computer, though.

@ Sabrina: how is the sidebar off? Hmm, as far as I know it should display correctly in Safari, Firefox and IE6. Which browser are you using?

The sidebar looks a lil bit off left in my browser too (I’m using Firefox), just like it had a negative left margin.

Hmm, that’s strange, because I can see it just fine in my browsers. Is part of the sidebar trimmed?
Here’s how it should look. :)

Here’s how my Firefox renders your sidebar.

It’s how it’s meant to be… :)
Hehe…funny it created confusion — was it meant to? Who knows… ;)
