Hate Hate Hate
2006.02.07Have you ever realized how many times in a day you hear/say the word hate? Isn’t it too much?
I think it definitely is.
I’m not saying it should be abolished, only it should be used when there’s real need for it.
Indeed, most of the times you’d be better of with “I can’t understand it”, “I’m not really into it” and generally something expressing disagreement or lack of understanding, instead of “I hate it!”.
Usually, you don’t hate something, you don’t understand it. Yet sometimes you just hate it… ;)
I think words such as cunt, piss, fuck, cocksucker, tits, shit and motherfucker aren’t any worst than improperly used hate.
P.S.
You’ll still be able to find several posts containing the word hate in my archive.

You know what? You’re absolutely right! People often say they hate something merely because they just don’t understand it. Over the past year or so, I’ve tried to use other words than hate, like expressing the true feelings towards something. And so far, I’ve been doing good!

Hate is subjective and has different connotations to different people. To ask some to exclude it from their vocabularies is a little unfair, but I think your post is more concerned with eradicating its use among people with limited comprehension of the true feeling the word comunicates. Let’s face it, some people use it COMPLETELY arbitrarily.

I agree with you, Michele, although the vast majority of times we pronounce that word, we don’t really mean “hate”.
I “hate” taking the bus when it’s raining, but that’s just a thing I don’t like, or a particular situation I can’t stand.
Anyway, referring to your post, I think that one of the funniest ways about this word usage is this:
which, incidentally, leaves me totally agreeing.

Generally hate is used to express mixed feelings that aren’t really THAT bad. Hate is hate, it’s not just dislike.
But still, we shouldn’t censor it either, because censorship is even worse than using words improperly.
@ Andre: I love that badge, too! :)
