The Keith Haring Show

Yesterday I visited The Keith Haring Show in Milan.
It’s probably one of the best — if not THE best — retrospective about Keith Haring ever realized. And it really is.
Keith Haring is one of my favourite artists, I absolutely love his work and his persona.
What makes him so special, at least to me, it’s the simpleness of his art. Not simple because it’s basically composed of childish drawings, but because it’s accessible to everyone. Everyone can enjoy a Keith Haring painting.
Someone might argue that his art is too easy, but is it a bad thing?
What he wanted to achieve was to make art freely available to everyone and for everyone to enjoy. Of course at some point he became mainstream and sold his pieces for millions, but he continued to paint walls all around the world for free.
Indeed, he said instead of stopping painting, he decided to sell his paintings to those who wanted to hang them on their home’s walls, but continued to paint for the people for free.
He was a very eccentric person, he loved to hang out with people and was in love with life. I think his works states it.
His art makes me happy. His art makes me love art a little bit more.
Unfortunately, today is the last day the exhibition is open, but there’ll be other. Just make sure to check out the exhibitions page on The Keith Haring Foundation’s website.
