Late Show vs Tonight Show
This one is for my American readers: why have you got two shows that are exactly the same?
I mean, the Late Show and the Tonight Show are almost exactly the same show: similar studios, music bands, sofas, coffee mugs, desks, funny bits and I think they air at the same time, too.
The only differences are: hosts - David Letterman vs Jay Leno - and cities - NY vs LA.
And I’m sure there are two kinds of people: those who love the Tonight Show and hate the Late Show, and those who love the Late Show and hate the Tonight Show. Which is stupid since they are the same show…
Is it something common in the States for TV networks to rip off other networks’ shows?
And BTW, which one’s the original one: Tonight Show or Late Show? Actually, I prefer the Late Show a bit more, though I love them both…

Well, what really happened was there was a really huge dispute between Jay Leno and Letterman because of the Tonight Show. This happened because Letterman was supposed to be the successor to Johnny Clarkson or something, but instead Clarkson picked Leno instead. This made Letterman Furious. Before this happened Leno and Letterman were really good friends, after this, they haavent talked in so many years.
The Tonight Show came first, although the rightful host should have been Letterman, and the late show was second because CBS wanted to give Letterman a show.
Both shows have their diffrences; The Tonight Show seems to be trying to be funny instead of the Late Show which seems to be funny- just because. That’s just opinion.

Huge, HUGE difference. The Tonight Show is actually worth watching… and it leads into Conan O’Brien’s show.

Jay’s pretty right wing. And Jay’s crowd is a little older than Dave’s. But they’re both corporate media guys. Jon Stewart (The Daily Show on Comedy Central) is better than either of them imho.

Hmm, right wing? I think I should watch a couple more shows to get this - I’ve only seen a couple.
What’s obvious is that both of them, like you said, are corporate media guy, but how could it be different? One’s on CBS and the other’s on NBC…
I think both of them are quite funny and I’d love to watch Jon Stewart, but unfortunately, in Italy we don’t get him…
Thanks for your comment Rev. Bob!
