Make trade fair
2004.10.05Have you ever thought about fair trade?
Fair trade is a way to try making life for poor people around the globe a little easier - that’s kind of minimizing the issue, but it’s an easy way to explain it. Fair trade companies work directly with people who live in the Third World and do business directly with them, thus making their situation rosier.
The difference between a multinational company and a “fair” company, is that the first one wants to maximize its profits, while the second one prefer to have a modest - sometimes nonexistent - profit.
I usually buy tea, chocolate, juices and stuff like these in fair-trade-strores. It’s not like you have to renounce to anything, indeed fair trade products are most of times better because they are natural and free of any kind of additives.
So, the next time your going to buy something from a company like Nestle’, Del Monte, etc. (hope they want sue me… ;) ) just stop for a second and think about how they “use” people from the Third World.
